Shooting in New York

While we really don't know a motive in the shooting at the community center in New York serving immigrants, I just feel it is appropriate to post this article. I think we will find out more as the investigations continue. What a tragedy. The shooter was also from out of the country. I wonder about how we are really assimilating or accomodating newcomers in our communities.

  1. I thought of the same thing when I heard about this. How sad it is that people come to our country to most often "get a new life". I guess this didn't happen for some of these people. I think it is terrifying that anyone could do that.

  2. Unfortunately, immigrant shootings are not isolated to this case. Wasn't the trolley square shooter a few years ago also an immigrant? My guess would be that these tragedies lead to tighter immigrant regulation and it's their fellow immigrants who ultimately, will pay the price for their crime.

  3. Yes, Marci, the Trolley Square shooter was the 18 year old son of immigrants, who have returned to their native country [although they didn't do so immediately]. Like Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris's parents [of Columbine fame], they said they didn't know what their son was thinking/feeling, and they were unaware of his plans.

I followed that shooting with interest because my husband and I left Trolley Square that night only 40 minutes before the shooting began. Had we stayed longer, I would have been wounded or dead. I visited every part of the shopping center that he was shooting people in.
